- • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: It is a hormonal disorder in which the ovaries are affected during the childbearing years, thus, leading to irregularity in menstrual cycle. Its common symptoms are missed or irregular periods, excessive facial hair, acne, thinning hair on the head, altered moods, difficulties in sleeping, depression, infertility, weight gain and fatigue. It can be treated with the help of medication and procedures, such as laparoscopic ovarian cauterisation/ovarian drilling/LEOS (laparoscopic electro-cauterisation of ovarian stroma).
- • Infertility: It is an inability to conceive, despite unprotected and frequent sex for at least a year. Its symptoms are different for men and women. It can be treated with the help of hormone therapy, ovarian stimulators and with procedures, such as varicocelectomy, in vitro fertilization (IVF), intrauterine insemination (IUI), and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
- • Urinary Tract Infection: Parts of urinary system, including kidneys, bladder, ureter, and urethra get infected. Its symptoms include sensation of burning while urinating, frequent urination or urge to urinate but incomplete voiding, pain in pelvis, bloody urine, pain in back or lower portion of the abdomen, tiredness, abnormal urine, fever, nausea and/or vomiting and vaginismus. It can be treated with the help of antibiotic medication.
- • Vaginitis: It is an infection or inflammation of the vulva or vagina. Its symptoms are altered colour and amount of discharge, and foul smelling white, grey, or yellow coloured discharge from the vagina. It can be treated with antifungals and topical vaginal oestrogen.
- • Menorrhagia: In this condition, heavy menstrual flow occurs. It lasts for more than seven days, during which significant cramping occurs. Apart from the heavy menstrual bleeding that lasts for more than 7 days, its other symptoms are larger blood clots, need of changing pad or tampon within an hour, need of using more pads at once, and tiredness, fatigue, and shortness of breath during the flow. Minor cases can be treated with medication. Severe cases require surgery. Procedures that are performed to treat menorrhagia include dilation and curettage, hysterectomy, endometrial resection, and uterine artery embolization.
- • Ectopic pregnancy: The fertilized egg gets attached outside the uterus. When left untreated, it may result into fatal bleeding. Its symptoms include abdominal pain, unilateral pelvic pain, bleeding, pressure in the rectum and dizziness or fainting. It can be treated with medication and procedures, such as laparoscopy.
