Digital X-ray
We are here for your care.
Digital x-ray is an advanced form of examination through the use of x-ray. It produces a digital image on a computer instantly. In digital x-ray, x-ray-sensitive plates are used that directly capture data during the examination of the patient. This is immediately transferred to a computer without using an intermediary cassette. The flat panel detectors or plates employ a combination of amorphous silicon detectors with cesium or gadolinium scintillators that change x-ray to light which is then translated by thin film transistors into digital data. It is an expensive procedure. The produced images are of very high quality.
The flat panel detectors can work on two different approaches, which are, indirect conversion and direct conversion.
In indirect conversion, a scintillator layer is present in the flat panel detectors that changes x-ray photons to photons of visible light and employs a photo diode matrix of amorphous silicon to change the light photons into electric charge.
In direct conversion, a photo conductor is used by flat panel detectors on a multi-micro electrode plate, facilitating highest sharpness and resolution. When x-ray photons fall over the photo conductor they are changed into electric signals. These electric signals are then amplified and digitized. A sharper image is ensured due to absence of scintillators and the lateral spread of light photons. This is what differentiates direct conversion from indirect conversion.
On combining a flat panel detector with a suitable manipulator and image processing software, they can be utilized for x-ray computed tomography (CT) inspection, generating a three-dimensional picture of the inner and external structure of the test object.
